ABOUT US

The Hartford Yacht Club was  incorporated on June 26, 1895. The original club location was on the East Hartford side of the Connecticut River in the area of the Founders and Buckley bridges. We are now located on Tryon Street at the Glastonbury/Portland border.

We are a "working club" where all of our members take part in supporting the club by joining work parties to maintain the docks, building and the grounds.  We also ask all members to join one of our committees that are in charge of operating various aspects of the club. Finally, we ask that our members attend and enjoy the amazing food, friends and fun at the club's regular social events including our, spaghetti dinner, Halloween party, Christmas party, and Kentucky Derby party.

  • Where can I find the Club Calendar and Bylaws?
The club calendar of events and our bylaws can be found by clicking on the following link: Club Bylaws and Calendar
  • How much do slips cost?
Slips are only available to active club members. Therefore, before you can get a slip, you'll need to sign up to become a member of the club. Slips and moorings are granted to members based on seniority. Although we often have a couple of slips that become available each season, there is frequently a wait list, so it may take a season or two of membership before getting a slip. Once a slip becomes available, the cost is determined based on the length of your boat, if you need electricity, and if you have A/C on board. The pricing can be found on our sign-up form using the link below: (however, please do not sign up for a slip until you've been notified that we have one available for you) HYCBC - Slip, Launch Pass or Mooring (Linked to New Membership Form)
  • What is the biggest boat your slips can accomodate?
Our slips can accommodate boats up to 34 feet in length. We can also accommodate larger boats at the end of our dock for transient visits.
  • Are you a Marina?
Although we do have slips, moorings and launch ramps for use by our members, we are not a marina. We are a working club where members work together to maintain the club and handle most of the work that a marina would do. We are also a social club and have a number of events throughout the year to bring club members together.
  • What does it cost to be a member?
To be a member at the Hartford Yacht Club you'll need to pay the following fees: 1. New membership fee - This is a one-time fee to join the club. As of 2025, the new membership fee was $701.95. This fee is paid when you apply to become a member. If for any reason you do not become a member, this fee will be refunded to you. 2. Annual Dues - These are paid every year to keep your membership active. For 2025, the total dues for each member were $95. Once you are accepted as a member, you'll be asked to pay your first years dues. 3. Assessments - Occasionally, the club may need to request an assessment of all members to cover a major unexpected expense. The club tries to minimize the need for assessments, and they do not happen frequently, but when they do, they are typically less than $200. For example, in 2023 there was a one-time assessment of $100 from each member to cover the cost of a new kitchen for the club. 4. Club Events - Several times a year the club has parties and other social gatherings to bring club members together. There is sometimes a minor cost for these events to cover food expenses and to raise money for the club. All members are encouraged to participate in the preparation and join in these events. Please keep in mind, membership included access to the club, use of the club property, and an invitation to club events. It does not include access to the boat ramp, moorings or any slip fees.
  • Can I rent out the club?
Active HYC Members are allowed to rent out the club for personal events as long as they don't prevent access to the club by other members. To rent the club and to pay the rental fee please Click here You will receive an email confirmation but please be sure to check with the commodore to verify that there are no conflicting events.
  • Can I get a slip or mooring right away?
From time to time the Hartford Yacht Club has slips or moorings that are available and offered to new members. However, most often there is a waiting list for slips and moorings and new members will typically get added to a waiting list and it may take a season or two before one becomes available. In the meantime, we do have an excellent and easy to use boat ramp along with trailer parking for those willing to trailer a boat until a slip is available. If you've read these FAQ's but would like to find out availability of slips and how long the wait list is, before joining, please complete the following form listed here: Click Here and our membership chair will get back to you.
  • How do I become a member?
Here are the steps to become a member of the Hartford Yacht Club: Complete the Membership Request form and pay the initial fee using the following link: Click Here). Don't worry, this is refundable if for any reason you don't end up joining the club. Once your application is submitted, you'll get an email confirmation, and our membership chair will reach out to you to schedule a meeting and show you around the club. They will also setup an introduction meeting with the club's Board of Governors who will vote on your membership request. Once you're accepted, we will ask you to pay the first year's membership dues and will then be given a key to the club. If you're interested in a mooring or slip, the dock master will let you know if there is anything available this season. If not, you'll be added to the wait list for a slip or mooring when one becomes available. If you're looking for access to the launch ramp, you'll pay the fee for a Launch Pass using the following link: Click Here Thats all there is to it.
  • How do I pay for transient slip fees?
